THE DETAILS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Beyond the brochure

Country-specific facts and practical questions to build a stronger study plan.

01

Check the exact institution and programme

Confirm the designated learning institution and the programme you will attend. DLI status alone does not establish post-graduation work-permit eligibility. Use the official list and the institution’s programme information before you accept an offer.

02

Examine the credential and learning format

Compare the qualification awarded, course content, assessment and any practical component. Ask whether co-op placement is competitive and what additional steps it requires. Keep the answer with your offer instead of relying on a general promotional description.

03

Build a province-specific living budget

EduCanada separates housing, food, utilities, communication and insurance costs. Health coverage for international students depends on the province or territory and the school. Check whether residence or meal-plan payments are due upfront.

04

Recheck post-study eligibility

IRCC states that PGWP eligibility and length depend on the programme and individual circumstances. Language results and, where applicable, field-of-study rules matter. Verify the exact programme rather than assuming every Canadian qualification leads to the same outcome.

FROM APPLICATION TO ARRIVAL

Your journey to Canada,
step by step.

Scroll to explore the milestones. We help you understand what to prepare and what comes next.

A typical international degree-student route where immigration permission is required. Steps can overlap; nationality, course and official decisions determine your exact route. This is a planning guide, not your application status.

  1. STEP 01

    Apply to a designated institution

Check DLI status and separately investigate programme eligibility if future post-graduation work matters to you.

  2. STEP 02

    Obtain your acceptance letter

Review academic conditions, tuition and refund terms before accepting the place.

  3. STEP 03

    Check provincial documentation

Obtain a PAL/TAL if required. For Quebec, check the CAQ process and any exemptions that apply.

  4. STEP 04

    Prepare your permit evidence

Organise financial evidence, identity records and the documents on your personalised IRCC checklist.

  5. STEP 05

    Submit your study permit application

Apply through the official process and complete biometrics or medical checks when requested.

  6. STEP 06

    Review approval and travel documents

Check your letter of introduction and any required visa or eTA; the approval letter is not the study permit.

  7. STEP 07

    Travel and complete entry formalities

Present the required documents at entry, check the permit issued to you and complete campus registration.

ASK BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Questions worth asking

Does DLI status guarantee a PGWP?

No. Both programme eligibility and your own compliance with the published requirements matter. Review IRCC’s criteria before choosing the course.

Should I compare only annual tuition?

Compare the full credential cost, length, mandatory fees and living expenses. A lower annual fee may not mean a lower total study cost.

YOUR FUTURE DESERVES A THOUGHTFUL PLAN
