๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ YOUR NETHERLANDS STUDY GUIDE

Study in Netherlands

Choose your learning styleโ€”and secure your living plan.

The Dutch choice is as much about how you want to learn as where you want to live. Research universities and universities of applied sciences have different emphases; housing availability must be part of the decision from the beginning.

THE DETAILS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Beyond the brochure

Country-specific facts and practical questions to build a stronger study plan.

01

Research or applied learning?

Research universities emphasise academic study and research. Universities of applied sciences focus on professional application, often with internships. Compare the curriculum and progression options; a similar subject title does not mean the same learning experience.

02

Check the institutional application instructions

Studielink is the official registration portal used for most programmes, but some institutions have a different route for applicants from abroad. Selection programmes can have earlier deadlines. Complete the universityโ€™s own requested steps as well.

03

Make housing a condition of your move

Study in NL warns of a severe student housing shortage and advises arranging accommodation before arriving. Ask the institution about available support, verify the room and provider, and review the contract before paying.

04

Compare the full housing offer

Check whether rent includes utilities and internet, whether the room is furnished and how far it is from classes. Include the deposit and setup costs. A lower rent can be offset by furnishing, transport or additional bills.

FROM APPLICATION TO ARRIVAL

Your journey to Netherlands,
step by step.

Scroll to explore the milestones. We help you understand what to prepare and what comes next.

A typical international degree-student route where immigration permission is required. Steps can overlap; nationality, course and official decisions determine your exact route. This is a planning guide, not your application status.

  1. STEP 01

    Choose a programme and institution

Compare research and applied-sciences programmes and check admission requirements.

  2. STEP 02

    Submit your application

Follow the institutionโ€™s instructions, including Studielink where required.

  3. STEP 03

    Accept and meet admission conditions

Complete the required academic, language and payment steps by the universityโ€™s deadlines.

  4. STEP 04

    Prepare the institutionโ€™s immigration file

Provide the funds and legalised or translated documents requested by your recognised sponsor.

  5. STEP 05

    Institution submits the application

For the relevant non-EU route, the recognised institution applies to IND for residence and an MVV if needed.

  6. STEP 06

    Check approval and secure housing

Follow instructions for any entry visa and permit collection. Arrange housing before travelling.

  7. STEP 07

    Arrive and complete registration

Collect your permit as directed, register locally and complete your universityโ€™s arrival requirements.

ASK BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Questions worth asking

Does a university offer include a room?

Do not assume it does. Ask about availability and conditions separately, and secure a verified housing arrangement before moving.

Is an applied-sciences institution just another name for a research university?

No. The emphasis and programme structure differ. Compare the course, qualification and future-study requirements carefully.

YOUR FUTURE DESERVES A THOUGHTFUL PLAN
